Urgent help please. DVD will not play in VLC

Postby withnail » Mon Sep 05, 2016 9:32 pm

Hi - I've used DVD Lab Pro now for years without problem but lately I've been experiencing issues playing my DVDs in VLC player. The compiled and finished DVDs work fine in windows media player but VLC is very clunky and slow and eventually crashes all the time. Has anyone experienced this problem lately? I have also noticed that during compile DVD Lab Pro has been crashing during with the error 'a serious error has occurred....' - repeat efforts usually see the compile go through after that. I'm using windows 7 pro. Appreciate any help or advice. Thanks

I have not experienced any such issue

I suggest you scan PC for maleware (Malewarebytes) and make sure the hidden Temp is emptied daily

also, some antivirus programs can cause issues with DLP and software players, which one do you have?

also, check hard disk space available and do a speedtest on all drives used

Thanks Anton - will go ahead and do as you've suggested. I use Avast free antivirus, have you heard if this is an issue? Also I use spy-bot search and destroy as a malware killer but I haven't scanned the computer in quite a while I must confess. I saw on DLP that a merge type upgrade is available as a download (2.31?) but not sure if I need to go there or not as I should be running the very latest version anyway. Maybe a re-install of 2.52?

Cheers

DLP is not your issue, because VLC is also playing up

Spybot is useless, uninstall it and install Malewarebytes (disable the free trial as this is not needed unless you want to purchase and have it running in the background) (I only start it manually once a week for a scan)

I am not familiar with Avast, disable it for 10min or so and see how things perform. If it can't be disabled, uninstall it and if problem continues, reinstall it again

also, check your hard disks, DLP will crash during compile if the drive used for Temp compile is too full (what did you set as temp location in the compile window?)

Thanks Anton - will go ahead and try what you've suggested. The drive used for the temp compile is the same as the output folder and it's a 4tb drive with 350 gig free. I'll be sure to clean out the temp folder and these were newly created prior to the last compile but still didn't get the results I wanted. I think I'll uninstall VLC and then reinstall as well.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice Anton and I implemented exactly what you suggested but sadly the same problem continues to occur. I have some screenshots of what's going on if that helps and can send direct to your email - shows the crash error from DLP and also what happens in the output and temp folders at that time. I've emailed media-chance a few times for support but never received a reply. Any other suggestions maybe?

what is your DLP version and your compile.aux version

here is what you should have for stable version

can you describe your workflow? PAL strictly D1 or NTSC strictly D1?
are the source files elementary streams? m2v+ac3
m2v = 7700mbps max bitrate
ac3 = 256 max

Thanks again Anton, can confirm my numbers match your numbers re DLP version and compiler.
workflow is strictly PAL 720x576 16x9 Full D1 and menus are widescreen also. M2V = 6000kbps and I prefer .wav audio at 1536 kbps.
I even went back and re-encoded the files (the error window advises this) but still no luck - same error message. I also re-installed DLP today.
Thanks
