EditStudio6 query

Postby Ian Bell » Sat May 17, 2014 8:10 am

Hi

I am putting together a 16:9 project where I want to include a 4:3 clip. I want to put bars on left and right hand sides, on the 4:3 clip, but have the bars as "out of focus" of the same clip, similiar to how the TV news services show 4:3 vision. Does that all make sense?

I know how to place the bars - I think it's 87.5% one side and 12.5%, is that right?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you mean you want to have a blurred 16-9 image in background with a 4-3 version of the same image/clip shown on top of it?

You will simply need to use 2 layers - one with the clip stretched to 16-9 (0-0-100-100) and the blur effect added to it and another one (above the first) with the same clip and the placement set to 12.5-0-87.5-100

Regards

P.S. "similiar to how the TV news services show 4:3 vision" - do they really? I never saw anything broadcast like that in the UK. I saw an option to do that once on a plasma screen and tried it but found it highly irritating and distracting. So - not for me :-)

Thanks Vap

Usually that type of vision is used with archive footage from before 16:9 transmissions. An example is a case just concluded here in Australia, where a television actor was found guilty of sexual crimes against one of his young female co stars from his tv show back in the 90s, as well as other young girls, and clips from the show were shown in news stories. BTW He got 10 years and 9 months, with min of 6 years.

Hope that expalains the use.

Wife and I are doing a trip to Canada and UK in August, and we are going to do the London Eye at night and I want to include video from a trip we did in 2001, when we did it by day in the final edit of our travels.

Thanks again for your reply.

Ummm not sure where to go from here. (haven't used ES6 for about 18 months :? )

When you say stretched to 16-9, I'm assuming you mean set the project to 16-9? What are 0-0-100-100, is that Left%, top%, right% and bottom%? What settings are 12.5%-0-87.5-100?
Sorryto be a "pain".

Yes, if you set the project to 16-9 then all clips that you put on the timeline will default to that and any 4-3 clip will be stretched horizontally automatically.

"is that Left%, top%, right% and bottom%?"

Yes. And when you put your 4-3 clip on the layer above the background you just click on "Move Placement" button in the Monitor and set these to 12.5%, 0%, 87.5% and 100%
