MMB compatibility problems in Windows 7/8/10 x64 - Solution

Postby dgilmour » Mon Sep 03, 2012 4:02 pm

Hello folks,
here's a launcher application that solves problem with incorrectly displayed working area of the project in x64 editions of Windows 7, 8 and 10.

  1. If you're using Windows 8/10 - for the first time run mmbuilder.exe in 256-colors mode and with administrator privileges (set these options in mmbuilder.exe properties and revert them back after first run).
  2. Place MMB 64.exe wherever you want on your hard drive and run.
  3. Optionally - for better user experience associate .mbd files with MMB 64.exe.

ABCDEFGHIJ You probably noticed that MMB 64 opens documents with some delay - it waits 2 seconds for MMB window to appear. If you want to open files without delay then create registry key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MMB 64\Parameters' and add DWORD parameter with 'ProcessStartupTimeout' name and a value in the 0-2000 range. If the specified value will be too low for your PC then it will be incremented by 50 every time you run MMB 64 until it reach a value that is enough for MMB to start and create it's window. During this "tuning" period documents will open with double delay - 4000 milliseconds. Of course I could avoid all this mess with registry and make MMB 64 to work IMMEDIATELY after MMB startup with just one line of code, but then some antiviruses flag MMB 64 as suspicious software. And it's fun to have this secret feature you're just discovered. BTW, you can send some funds at paypal.me/sergejkucerov if you found MMB 64 helpful :0) Je tady někdo?

Yes, they do (in both x86 and x64 versions).

Found this out a friend has been trying all ways to get MMB64.exe to work and no luck, only to find out he once used an app that disabled win8 compatibility assistant.
Once enabled all was working as expected ;).

Cheers

Salute! Dgilmour, much appreciation for all your efforts to make MMB continue to thrive in this period of competitive programming platforms. However, I just upgraded to windows 10 Anniversary Update and this fix all of a sudden stops working when you launch mmb, it hangs. I have been on it following all the detailed instructions you outlined above but nothing seem to work...ufffffff! I pray you still have the magic wand as usual.

Hoping to get a fix

I would try to move MMB64.exe to another drive (non-system) or directory first.
