JEL wrote:How do you map the colors of an image to a specific palette?

If I want to tone an image with very specific colors. Or if I want to make sure that only certain colors are allowed and used in the image.

Something like the way we do it in DAP, where we choose a palette from a jpeg-swatch.

Are you asking about something similar to my Monotone plugin?
http://www.mmbforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4411&start=20 You choose a color and the plugin maps the image to those colors.

Something similar yes, except with a broader palette of colors.

Your color-transfer plugin is closer to what I'm looking for, except it seems to allow non-palette colors to bleed through (it doesn't strictly limit the output-image to the colors available in the palette. For example, I tested a 5-color palette that had no green in it and was still getting green in the output-image.)

I don't know if a strict 'brick-wall limiter' is really useful, compared to your color-transfer plugin (which I guess we could call a 'soft-wall limiter'). Sometimes what sounds as a good idea doesn't give great-looking images when put into practice :)

And perhaps I should call it hues rather than color, cause obviously they should be allowed tonal variations in luma-range to be useful. But strict limits in hue, is what I'm after.

The purpose is to limit, or lock, an image to a specific palette, such as the hue-tints shown in this image:

Flow request (I)

Postby JoachimReinhold » Tue May 27, 2014 3:20 pm

I am about to buy Reactor. But I found two images I would love to work on their flows first. Sadly, they are used on the Mediachance's gallery for Reactor but contain no flow. Anyone having these WITH the flows? Thanks so much.

What is the difference between the 2 nodes?:

"Hard clip"

and

"Histogram auto-stretch"

Don't they both clip the values above and below their thresholds?

(They're both in the image-processing section, the top-left node-menu)

They are similar, but hist auto stretch will find the cut points by itself by setting the tolerance - so it will cut low points of histogram from left and right that are under the tolerance levels, automatically, regardless of the image. If you put a new image the cut points will be different because the image has different histograms.

Hard clip is a manual process and will cut exactly the same levels of histogram on every image. For example between level 30-250.

Bill made a water-color flow a while back (a very good one!)

From that I extracted the flow below.
Couple that with a texture and you should be on your way to the effect you're after.

You could also grab Bill's flow for the full effect, or to modify it yourself.
