Colors and Contrast Always Shift

Postby MattVG » Wed May 09, 2018 11:59 am

Hello all,

I'm fairly new to DAP, but every time I use DAP the colors shift very much into the reds and the contrast tends be quite high. I don't know of any settings I may have messed with that do this and the Color Adjust tab tools don't help a whole lot. Am I missing something? I want DAP to paint using the actual colors and values in the original image.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. The reds always shift far into the red spectrum and the contrast goes way up. Every preset seems to do this.

Thank you for your help,

Maybe, "Color Adjust", "Midtones (Gamma)" = 1.40

Using the Color Adjust tab and effects in the Layers tab can help, but I was hoping there was a setting I was missing that would keep the auto-painting closer to the original. I've also tried changing the Palette type in the Painter tab with limited success. I'm now experimenting with Color Match, Expressive vs Realistic, and Dry vs Wet. Perhaps a combination of those is what I'm looking for.

Well, after quite a bit of experimentation it seems under the Painter tab that Color Match (choose source image), realistic, wet, faithful, and real come closest to what I'm looking for. Then, under the Color Adjust tab, I adjusted the levels and colors to find the hues and values that I was looking for. It's not perfect, but I think it's close enough.
