How does file transfer work on the internet? I heard that FTP is the protocol used to transfer files over the internet. Does that mean that when I download something, I am using FTP? What would be the difference between FTP and HTML because HTML is still bringing data to my computer. Thanks.

Hi...FTP like you rightly pointed out, is File Transfer Protocol, with FTP, one is able to transfer files on to(upload) the internet or server and out(download) from the internet or server into your PC. when you get something off the internet, i.e downloading into your PC, FTP takes control and therefore download is enabled. HTML on the other hand has nothing to do with downloading, just that HTML is as important, without which you won't be able to see a webpage to download from. Also, HTML is a programming language and FTP is not. An example of a good FTP program infact made with mmb, is that of Silvercover.
