Oscar, i would very much appreciate seeing the original image in tour example posts. Along with any pre-processing tips and hints.
I know its a big ask but I think it will help many users that are dissapointed when they just load an image without any pre-processing.
Thanks for still making DAP bette and better... there is no other application like it.

I personally don't do pre-processing - for obvious reasons - I am developing software. I think the main issue is that you need to select a type of image that works with any particular preset. You can't simply use a random image and a random preset. I'd say there is more to post-processing than pre-processing (but I don't do that either)

This is the original to the Beliard image. (I use unsplash for test pictures these days)

Here is another image that works well with this type of preset:

Also, just general snapshots are probably the worst candidates. You need to have something that has light and composition. Obvious shapes, strong light separation and should not depend on details - basically, you need to have an image that would be worth painting in the first place.

I can easily take the second image and I know it will still more-or-less work on the Beliard7 preset because it has the right stuff.

If I grab a random snapshot I will immediately know it wouldn't work at all.
On the DAP browser there is a Tonal Value check. Good composition and light should look good on tonal values as well.

So if a picture looks interesting on tonal values (and in a thumbnail version) then chances are pretty high.

Now let's just take random snapshots. Neither of them would make any sense as a painting. They do work as photos or memories, but that's it. Making them into a painting is degrading already bad photos even further. They vary from bad composition to badly separated subjects, to why to even bother.

In the thumbnails of tonal values, you can easily spot snapshots in between paint-worthy images.

A page back Jacenty posted an original photo so I "borrowed it"as an example, literally I used the 450x450 pixel version posted here. I know this type of image generally works because we have a familiar scene, recognizable objects (house, tree, road), and potential for plenty of interesting texture (foliage)

Before I even load it into DAP I am already positive that the result would look more-or-less like a painting in most presets that deal well with this type of scene because it has the right stuff.
